Lower back pain is one of the most common conditions that I treat as a physical therapist. Significant episodes of lower back pain happen to most of us in our lives; they can be debilitating and miserable.

Luckily there’s a lot that the right stretches and exercises can do to relieve tension and pain in your lower back and help you to feel better fast.

The first step in treating any lower back condition is to preserve the mobility available in your lower back and hips. Pain tends to cause your back to stiffen up; our first step in treating your back pain is to introduce the right stretches to your lower back and hope to help decrease stiffness, improve motion, and decrease pain.

Keep in mind that your back is capable of motion in three different planes of movement – forward/backward, side-to-side, and rotation. In order to effectively stretch your lower back it’s crucial that we introduce some stretching in all three of these motions. And that’s exactly what you’ll find in this video!

One more important note – your hips should be very mobile. The majority of mobility in your lower body should come from your hips while your lower back remains very strong and stable. A lack of mobility in your hips can be a major contributing cause to the pain you may be feeling in your lower back.

So my goals with this video are to show you effective exercises that will increase range of motion in your lower back and hips and decrease pain… all of which can be done in 60 seconds or less!
